At last, I’ve finished that painting I’ve been working on since March.
It just sat there on top of my currently non-functioning speakers for the last few weeks waiting for me to finish the dreadful details and yesterday I finally got it done.
The story sort of goes like “FIRE! I go out the window, you take the teddy bear and the fire escape!”
I don’t know what happens to the spiders, I don’t even know what they’re doing in the painting, just a scare-factor I guess, and they probably burn at the end of the story.

As for Frankie related news, the little pigeon is 3 weeks old now and I’m a bit worried. He doesn’t seem to be very active. I mean, Bailey (the baby pigeon from 2007) seemed a very healthy and alert pigeon when he was about 3 weeks old; when he’d spot me, he would stand up, hiss and try to get away without leaving the nest.
You know, a nervous, alert little pigeon, which has always – to me – been the description of a healthy pigeon.
But I worry about Frankie, because he doesn’t flinch at all when he sees me, nor does he hiss at me or stand up to get away, he just sits there, sometimes he looks up at me, but that’s about as active as he gets upon seeing me. I’ve never pet him or picked him up – I’m too scared his parents will abandon him or something.
So I don’t really think he’s gotten used to my presence; I do check on him every day and spend around 5-10 minutes near him to take pictures at least twice a day, (I did that with Bailey once a day, and he never got used to me.)
But, I wonder if Frankie’s okay – I don’t even know if he ever walks around on the balcony, between 3 and 8 pm he doesn’t, that’s when I check on him – I’m asleep from 6am to 2pm, so I don’t know what happens during those hours – but I’m a little worried if this is normal behavior for a 3 week old pigeon. Maybe I’m worried for nothing and maybe he is somewhat used to me, but I don’t know a lot about pigeons, so if anyone has any pigeon wisdom, please do share!

I LOVE the painting! It’s come out really well. The colours are great, so bold!
I don’t know anything about pigeons unfortunately. Maybe Frankie just isn’t as skittish as Bailey was?
Hi Aydin – I would not worry too much about Frankie – pigeons can be very different characterwise. If you want to make sure he’s healthy pick him up and check out his skin, his beak and eyes – you need not worry about the mother not coming back. She certainly will. Our pigeon family has become so tame that the babies jump on my hand while father and mother sit not far from me – 1 m – on the balustrade, watching me what I do with their chicks and even feeding them in my presence…it’s so sweet!
Hey pigeonwriter, it seemed he’s as healthy as a pigeon. The other day I looked through the window of the balcony door, and one of the parents was feeding him, but as soon as they spot me they stopped and Frankie tippy-toed back to his hiding place. At first I was worried that maybe he was disabled and couldn’t walk, but he can.
But this pigeon family is very jumpy, no matter how much I show myself or hang out around them; I remain that big scary thing. If I move very slowly and make my every move known they’ll sit tight, but they take off if I come too close. Most pigeons in The Netherlands are like that, except for those in big cities like Amsterdam, but the city where I live in, wild pigeons scare easily and I have no idea how to get them get used to me.
But Frankie is a little over 3 weeks old now, so I don’t think trying to pet him or pick him up would be the best idea now, I’d probably scare him half to death if I tried now, I should’ve done that earlier on maybe. I’ve often been tempted to pick him up, but his parents are the very opposite of tame. And I’d also be too scared that if Frankie did get very used to me, he wouldn’t feel threatened by other people, even the wrong ones.
I want to cuddle the little thing, but at the same time I want nature to do its job, and it doesn’t always work as a combination.

Hi
I care about two baby pigeons, about 24 days old, as i checked the internet about the age and it looks like 24 days old now.. I wonder if the 24 days old pigeons can eat on their own with the pigeon seeds..
My son found them .. and they are used to my son ’s taming and not scared.. they ‘d not fly high yet but little…so, other kids from school, bothered them and some of them destoryed other nest with the eggs.. i feel I should protect them by taking them home safety without the other children harming them… i have the food that I bought… not sure if they are ready to eat them for their age or do they still need me to feed them by mouth? Please give me the advice.
Thank you
Lisa
